About
Michelle Kogan is an artist, instructor, and writer. She grew up on Chicago's South Side, in a small house, and acquired a small patch of earth for growing flowers. At this tender age she became fascinated with flora and fauna. When she was a bit older she made regular trips to all the museums. She studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, receiving a BFA, and went on to receive an MFA in painting from Northern Illinois University. Her desire to draw figures has been on-going, and they always seem to ask her to share their story. Eventually these interests, figures, flora and fauna all make their way into her art.
Michelle teaches art, and in the summers spends a good amount of time painting plein air in gardens, her own garden, and nature venues in the Chicago area. In addition to art Michelle's always writing poetry–and participates in Poetry Friday–which is an online group of poets that post poems and poem related info on Friday’s weekly. Drop by Michelle's blog: Michelle Kogan: Artist, Poet, & Writer to read her Poetry Friday posts. She also creates poetry, stories, and art for children's books. A couple other places you can find her are with her nose in a book, and sketching and writing while out in nature, or on a walk.
Send Michelle an email for commissioning or purchasing art; poetry; children's writing and illustration; taking a class; or questions about her art. Thanks for taking a look, come back often she's always adding new art and writing!
